turkey decoys?
i have a jake and a hen decoy (1 of ea) a owl hoot and a box call, how shuld i set up the decoys and what kinda calls do i need to do with the box and owl call?
I usually get out to where I want to hunt while it’s still dark. When things start to lighten up a bit and I hear the first gobble, I let loose a “who cooks for youuuu who cooks for you all??” on the owl call. That gets them to ’shock gobble’ and it sure helps you identify where they are and move to a better position if need be.
If I can’t intercept one that way, I’ll use my decoys later in the day, around 10am, when the hens go to roost. But like another poster stated, don’t call too much. I’ve made that mistake!
One thing to remember about turkey (or any kind of) hunting is that it’s never the same no matter how many times you go out. I’ve had toms run over each other to get to my decoys and my calls, and I’ve had them completely ignore me. Hopefully you’ll get lady luck on your side.
