How can I make this better?
Suddenly, the temple door opened. Jess exhaled a deep breath and laid back in the chair. Max, Sean and Miranda stood under the doorway with their supplies. Max rushed in, pushing a wheelbarrow filled to the brim with firewood. Sean had three hammers and a new polished knife, which he held like it was his last piece of fish he was ever going to get. They laid the equipment on the floor and sorted it into distinct piles; one for food and one for equipment.
“What took you so long?” Jess wondered, busy organizing.
“It took a while to get the food. I went through The Altering Forest,” Miranda replied.
“The Altering Forest, how was that?” Jess asked as they sat down in a circle.
“It was different. In a strange way. There was this ghostly girl that gave me a bucket of deer meat. She claimed that she was the queen of the forest. So yes, real freaky.”
“Wow, now that’s messed up,” Max replied. “Hey Sean, maybe we should plan out the route to Patropoli Tower.”

Sean cradled three hammers in the crook of his armsand covetously clutched his new knife, its keen edge glimmering in the low light like the scales of a salmon swimming upstream.
“The Altering Forest, how was that?” Jess asked as they sat down in a circle. better: “Wow! What is the AF like?”
“Bizarre. Totally unlike anything I’ve ever seen. This ghostly girl gave me a bucket of meat. She claimed she was Queen of the AF.
“That’s pretty hard to believe alright! I mean, if she’s royalty, she ought to be able to hook us up with a better snack. At least order a freaking pizza, queenie. Or if you’re into hunting and got some extra venison and are going for an unfinished presentation, at least roast it and wrap it in leaves or dried deer hide. I mean, really… a bucket of meat? I think I’m going to puke! Hey Sean, think we can hit Mickey Dee’s for some take-out on the way to Patropoli Park?”
