I am looking to buy a rifle for deer hunting.?
I have decided on a 7mm Mag firs first preference, 30-06 in close second. I was looking at the Remington 770, but then i saw some very bad reviews on it. I have been shooting a 30-30 for years, but i have become disappointed with the accuracy. Any tips?
The price needs to stay on the lower end too!
Go with the .30-06. You can still get surplus rounds in large quantities for practice and recreational shooting. If you don’t reload and you go with the 7mm, you’ll forever be stuck buying rounds in boxes of 20, and you’ll pay a premium for them.
There’s also a much wider range of bullet weights available in 30 caliber than in 7mm, particularly on the heavy side. The 180 grain bullet is standard in .30-06 hunting rounds, and you can go all the way up to 220, while 175 is about the biggest 7mm you’ll find (again, if you don’t reload).
In practical field use, there’s very little difference in performance between the 2 rounds and their respective projectiles, so availability should be the deciding factor, and the .30-06 wins hands down.
For the rifle, you can’t go wrong with any of the name brands: Remington, Ruger, Savage, CZ, etc. Handle all of them and pick the one that feels/shoulders best.
