_________ ran through the woods fast as lightning. He was being chased by a hairy beast that wanted to kill him. He reached for his hunting knife but dropped it on the ground. He cursed wildly, words that a seven year old shouldn’t know. His normally spiled blonde hair was matted down with sweat. His shorts caught on a briar patch and tore to one of his side pockets. As he ran he searched his pockets for anything that could be used as a weapon. He found a stick of spearmint gum, his asthma inhalor, two double A batteries, and a shiny rock. He figured the rock wouldn’t do much so he ran into a cave.
The cave was full of shiny crystals. The beast must have followed him because he could here panting. Thats when he got a closer look at the beast. It was a red haired werewolf that resembled his adoptive parents son, _____.
Wow, that’s really creative.
The best advice my English teacher ever told me was “show, not tell.”
By that, she means like instead of “He was being chased by a hairy beast that wanted to kill him,” you can make it better by saying, “The beast’s muscles rippled underneath his fur as it gained on him,” or something like that. You can make writing more exciting by showing, not telling.
