Why do natives value traditional hunting ground?

(sorry, I’m using Jamie’s account again, this is her friend) This is research for school. its hard to explain…just dont tell me WHAT to say, just tell me why they value it lol…I dont wanna cheat. why do they value traditional hunting grounds, and dont want to move? Im a native in a debate, and I dont want my land to be flooded by a hydroelectric energy dam.

Generally speaking, Native Americans never had a concept in thier culture of “land ownership”.

A common thread in thier many religious traditions is that they were stewards of the lands which were created by the “great spirit”…which was a part of the lands. They didnt understand “owning” land therefore didnt have a concept of “selling” land.

When they signed agreements with the colonialist and later americans…they didnt understand that they would be driven from the land of thier fathers.

They finally caught on to what was happening..but this was only after the government had turned tribes on each other…introduced numerous epidemics into the native populations, broken promises, forced evacuations, and propogated genocide of a greater scale then the holocuast (est 70-100million)

This may be more then you were looking for..but the short answere is: These lands, where our fathers have lived give us life. It provides food for the winter, and clean running water. You want us to leave for the desolate land, where famine and disease take the spirits of our native brothers. I’ll not put pen to paper with you.
