Hunting Ammo Charts
I’ve always been told that the .223 Rem. round wasn’t good for deer hunting ,,,,,,,,,,?
In my area it’s minimum .243 win and in my Ontario hunting education manual say’s you need a minimum of 900 Foot Pounds of energy to humainly take down a deer

Now going by the Federal Premium ballistic chart the .223 Rem. is good for deer hunting with in 100 yards
So what’s up with this rule ?

most game laws have DUAL requirments of 6mm or larger diameter AND greater than 900 ftlbs. That way some guy doesn’t try to hunt deer with his 9mm
The 223 will work for deer. Many poachers use .22 mag. The deal is the 223 will work for medium to small sized deer IF you know what you are doing, but often doesn’t have the power to anchor a truely big buck. In places like Texas where the deer tend to be small, the 223 is popular. Places where the deer get big, it is often not considered adequate.
