The San Joaquin Valley Zone duck hunting season begins today, and prospects are not the brightest they can be. The Kern Refuge, while sheltering good numbers of birds, has only a limited amount of water at this time and only 59 shooters will be able to hunt when the season opens at a half-hour before sunup.
