Developmental Disabilities Services

Are there any existing organizations that assist physically disabled persons with housing?
I am a 21 years old student and suffer from muscular dystrophy. Over the past 2 years I have been searching for an accessible apartment which would make my day to day life easier. I have contacted many organizations for assistance and I’ve found that roughly 95% of the only offer service to Seniors and persons with developmental disabilities. While at this point in time there are many accessible apartments are built, they can be quite expensive. I live off of my social security subsidized income, which isn’t much – on average, about $650; not sufficient for rent, utilities, etc. I am currently on a waiting list for section 8 subsidized housing assistance, which has a wait period of 2+ years. I would greatly appreciate any answers i receive.
